Pragati Library

A Library is the soul of any educational institution. The curriculum and teaching methods in Pragati College of Arts & Commerce e require both intensive and extensive use of the materials in the library. Keeping in view its essential role, the library is being constantly enriched by the acquisition of latest books and journals. This helps the library to keep in pace with changing times and to further the advancement of the academic endeavors of the college.

Objectives of the Library:

  • To acquire develop, maintain and provide a qualitative and quantitative collection of Books, Periodicals and other instructional material to support the academic program and educational objectives of the college.
  • To encourage use of variety of resources to help prepare students for success in information and technological age and for lifelong learning.
  • To collaborate with other libraries through a planned resource sharing programme.

Library provides reading book facilities to the ex-students, ex-staff members as well as outsider members who wish to use the collection of the library.

Library Committee

To make library more learner centric and user friendly the college has constituted Library Advisory Committee. It facilitates effective and smooth governance of the Library. The Composition of the Library Committee is as follows :

Head of concerned departments – Teaching representative
General Secretary, Student council – Student representative
Mr. Gurunath Patil – Non-teaching representative

Library Rules 

The regulations are intended to enable the best use and fairest distribution to be made of the Pragati College Library Resources. All the bonifide students of the college are eligible to become member of our library.
  • Every student entering in the library premises should have an Identity Card. It should be produced as & whendemanded by the library staff.
  • Strict silence shall be observed in the library.
  • Student must handle books, any other material, such as periodicals, question sets with great care. Any attempt to damage books or periodicals by defecting or tearing the pages will be treated as misconduct & strictly dealth with.
  • The loss of library card must be informed in writing to the Librarian immediately. A fine of Rs.100 will be charged for issuance of duplicate Library card.
  • The readers should check the book thoroughly for missing pages, chapters, pictures etc. while borrowing the book.
  • A fine Rs.1/- will be charge per day for late return of the book. However after 1 week of overdue the fine will becharge as Rs. 2/- per day. And, after 2 weeks of overdue the fine will be charge as Rs.5/- per day.
  • In case of loss of books /resources readers shall be requested to replace it or pay the cost of the resources.
  • Students should bring only writing materials inside the library. Bags should be kept at the baggage counter.
  • Mobiles have to be kept in silence mode.
  • The students should enter the book details in the library register before referencing.
  • The Librarian reserves the right to suspend the privilege of borrowing of any member found misbehaving.
  • In case of complaints/suggestions, readers are request to bring them to the notice of the librarian. Suggestion box is kept in the Library.
  • All cases of students who disregard the rules given above will be reported to the Principal for appropriate action.

Membership Rules for Casual Members

Any students who are pursuing higher education can apply in prescribed Performa and become a casual member after the approval of the principal by paying the prescribed fee.
  1. For 1 day Rs.25/-
  2. For 3 days Rs.50/-
  3. For annual membership library Fees for External Students: Rs.100/- (Per month) + Library Deposit: Rs.500/- (refundable) 
  4. For Alumni: Rs. 50/- (Per Month) + Library Deposit : Rs. 500/-(Refundable)
