NSS

Introduction 

The National Service Scheme (NSS) Units of College was started with a view to establish a meaningful linkage between the institution and the Community. The NSS Unit of this institution has always been active and a number of commendable services have been performed for the society at large in different places. Our College has 02 unit of N.S.S having total strength of 200 volunteers. Prof. Dhananjay B. Wankhade and Prof. Manoj Makawana have been working as programme officer of each unit.  Our unit has always been taking initiatives to improve the overall development personality dimensions of our student’s community.

Keeping in view the needs and expectations of the community, it has always been the endeavor of the college NSS Unit to render its services at its level best.

Activities of the NSS

Our N.S.S.  Unit conducted various activities during this academic year a brief description of activities is as follows.

The enrollment of 200 NSS Volunteers had completed in the month of June & July.  After the orientation of enrolled NSS volunteers the regular activity of NSS had started in full enthusiastic manner.  Our unit had organized blood donation camp and Thallessmia testing in association with Blood line Hospital, Thane.  In this Blood Donation Camp 94 bottles of blood were collected.  Our Volunteers are also participated in blood donation camp organized by L.T.M.G. Hospital, Sion at Dombivli Railway Station . In the month of August, Tree Plantation & Rally was conducted at Posubal Patil Vidyalaya, Bale.  A workshop was organised by consumer guidance society of India Pragati College NSS Unit on “How to become a Smart Investor”. Our unit is actively involved in Pulse- Polio eradication Campaign and attached with Madvi Health Centre run by Kalyan-Dombivli Corporation.  In this year 04 Pulse Polio Campaign successfully completed by our unit.  For creating awareness in society total 04 rallies were conducted namely Tree Plantation, Aids Awareness, Avoid Drink & Drive and Shobhayatra on behalf of 150th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.  A civic Awareness Campaign was organized in collaboration with Rotary Club of Dombivli Midtown on 15th & 16th December 2012. Rally, Street Play & PPT Presentation were conducted during this campaign .  Our unit is strong in collaboration with N.G.O Akshara we jointly organized programme on Gender equality on occasion of NSS day.

Apart from above activities, we have conducted no of programmes for ex. visit to Janani Ashish Orphanage, Dombivli, visit to Pragati Andh Vidyalaya, Badlapur, Utsav festival and 5 days civil defence training programme etc.  Amongst various notable activities carried out so for, two of the visible activity was jointly celebration of Swami Vivekananda Jayanti with Podar College NSS unit and Two days Face-to-Face training programme in collaboration with Indira Gandhi Open University and Disaster Management Department, Thane.

Today self defence is more important than ever it’s a sense of security that empowers us to face any situation by considering this sense we had organized one day district level programme on women’s self-defence in this workshop 80 girls volunteers of 15 colleges were participated.

Apart from regular activities 07 days Residential camp held from 22nd to 28th Dec, 2012 at Posubal Patil Vidyalaya, bale. 90 NSS and 10 Non NSS and 02 Programme Officer participated in this camp.  During 07 day of camp yoga exercise, Shramdan, Cleaning of temple area, plastic eradication, Digging of shouch ghadda, Making of Bandara, Medical camp, Tree Plantation such community based activities were conducted.  For the overall the development of student cultural programme were organized like Orchestra of Pragati Andh Vidyalaya, Street plays competition, patriotic song competition, poster making competition etc.  Lecture were organized which was delivered by eminent personality on various social issues.
